When we founded our studio in 2000, we both wanted a strong sustainability ethos at the core of the business, which blended with an experimental approach to multiple disciplines across design and architecture.

‘Never Too Small’ caught up with us, featured in their second episode of ‘Wonderful Waste’, to discuss our first projects, furniture upcycling, and our vision for the future.

Mia’s Apartment

Studiomama's apartment renovation project in transformed a dark lower ground floor apartment into a spacious and light-filled space. Inspired by the ‘Rietveld Schröder House’, the design incorporated sliding walls, natural light, and space-saving furniture.

13 Square Metre House

We turned a former minicab office building in the heart of north London – only 13m in footprint – into a liveable house. Working within the fabric of the existing space, we defined five ‘zones’ for the home, which provided for relaxing, eating, cooking, working, sleeping and personal hygiene.

We have always been fascinated by how you can design small spaces to feel spacious, so the brief to convert a former 40m carpenter’s workshop into a comfortable townhouse was a challenge we welcomed.
