R for Repair
‘R for Repair’ invited Studiomama, along with other UK and Singapore designers, to repair cherished but damaged objects from the public – revealing the emotional and functional value of creative repair. As part of this project, we designed a dollhouse for a small collection of surviving mid-century dollhouse furniture for an exhibition at the V&A Museum in London.
Doll house commission design
‘R for Repair’ invited Studiomama, along with other UK and Singapore designers, to repair cherished but damaged objects from the public, revealing the emotional and functional value of creative repair. We designed a doll house for a handful of surviving mid-century dollhouse furniture. The doll house was on display at the V&A during the London Design Festival 2022 and highlighted a burgeoning repair culture. By transforming broken items into new forms, the initiative showcased the importance of design in preserving memories and reducing waste, emphasising that repair can be an emotional and artistic process.
