1x1 Series for 100% Design

Made from scaffold planks

The 1x1 series are pieces made from scaffold planks – cut up into 1x1 sections. The series includes a desk lamp, a floor-standing lamp and a combined postcard holder and ruler.

The design process

For this project, also a 10 TEN X project, we drew inspiration from the informally used imperial timber sizes, utilizing old scaffold planks cut into 1x1 sections. Our 1x1 concept led to the creation of a series of lamps and trestles crafted from these sections.

This initiative reflects our dedication to repurposing materials and designing functional yet visually appealing pieces. This method not only optimizes resource use but also showcases the raw beauty and inherent strength of the wood.

Each 1x1 element retains the character and history of the original planks, adding a unique story to every lamp and trestle. The minimalist design allows the natural texture and grain of the wood to stand out, creating a warm and organic feel.

The straightforward geometric form of the sections lends itself to various configurations, making each item both practical and adaptable to different settings. The lamps feature clean lines and simple assembly, providing functional lighting with a rustic charm. The trestles, in contrast, offer sturdy support for tables or desks, combining practicality with a distinctive aesthetic.

By repurposing scaffold planks, we minimize waste and give new life to materials that might otherwise be discarded. Through this series, Studiomama continues to explore the possibilities of reclaimed materials, transforming everyday objects into timeless works of art.
