The Danish Crafts Collection

Maison & Objet, 2011

The Danish Crafts Collection is an award-winning annual collection founded in 1999. It presents a curated selection of the best in emerging Danish craft and design at international fairs and in other commercial contexts. For four consecutive years, Studiomama was commissioned to curate and design the Maison & Objet presentation.

Danish Crafts CC15

Each year, we selected a diverse range of 20–30 of Denmark’s most promising ceramists, jewellers, textile and glass artists and furniture designers. Their products, all designed and made in Denmark, were anchored in local traditions and infused with the skill of experienced hands and a feel for form, aesthetics and storytelling. The results were relevant and meaningful products that mattered to the maker and made sense to the user.

The Crafts Collection 15 in 2011 had a focus on prototypes, which enabled small Danish workshops and craftspeople to connect with established manufacturers and bring their ideas to life.

Over the years, the Danish Crafts Collection, and subsequently Mindcraft, have fostered collaborative projects with manufacturers, museum shops, and leading design stores. For instance, special editions of the Danish Crafts Collection have been developed for New York's MoMA Design Store and Skandium in London. Many contemporary Danish designers and makers commenced their careers with a showcase as part of the Danish Crafts Collection/Mindcraft.
