Morito in Hackney

An atmospheric dining and music venue

Studiomama transformed a storage basement of Morito Restaurant in Hackney into a useful bar and dining space. The design incorporated an U-shaped banquet, a vibrant orange bar, and reflective surfaces to create an inviting and intimate atmosphere. The result is a versatile space where guests can enjoy dining and live music.

Restaurant transformation

Morito Restaurant's basement underwent a remarkable renovation by Studiomama, resulting in a captivating and versatile space. The design team addressed the challenge of limited natural light by strategically placing concealed lighting fixtures and using soft, warm lighting. The entrance to the restaurant and basement was redesigned to create a seamless transition between the two levels, allowing guests to experience a cohesive journey.

The colour palette of Morito's existing space, consisting of beige, blue, and orange, was extended to the basement, establishing a visual connection between the two areas. Continuing the orange line, an orange balustrade with playful geometric patterns guided guests down to the basement, offering a glimpse of the buzzing bar and live music that awaits them.

The bar, made of copper, seamlessly blended with the dominant blue and orange colours, while also providing a naturally antibacterial surface. To create a sense of togetherness and openness, a U-shaped banquet was installed along the walls. Soft, warm lighting gently washed up the walls from behind the banquet, casting a cosy and intimate glow throughout the space. Lozenge-shaped wall mirrors served both as decorative elements and reflective surfaces, enhancing the ambience and providing changing perspectives as guests moved through the space.

An additional kitchen was included to maintain the connection between the kitchen and the table. The transformed basement offers an inviting atmosphere for exceptional dining experiences and vibrant music events.

The transformed basement now stands as a captivating and versatile space, where guests can enjoy both exceptional dining experiences and vibrant music events.
